Announcing the First (Annual?) Body Moment Fitness Challenge

28 days. Two guys. Fifty bucks. No excuses.

Today marks the first day of a challenge that my longtime friend Troy proposed to me last week. In his words:

I propose some sort of weight-loss competition for four weeks. We can blog about it – and at the end you can write a post that tries very hard to not be a sore loser piece.

How could I refuse?

So after a spirited exchange of messages (and a good amount of trash talk), we’d decided on the terms of the challenge:

    • four weeks, starting Monday Oct 17 and ending Monday Nov 14
    • greatest percentage of body weight lost determines the winner
    • to the winner go the spoils: fifty bucks and a beer. (‘Cause no one takes a bet seriously unless it involves beer.)

Other than that, it’s a bare-knuckled, drag-down, dog-eat-dog fight to the finish.

Troy is a big fan of Tim Ferriss’ Four Hour Body methodology; he’s taken up running and swimming; and he’s generally turned himself into a fitness nut.

I’m a big fan of Jillian Michaels; I enjoy yoga, meditation, cross-country skiing and off-road running; and I generally take the stance that all food can be diet food – even cake and beer.

Could you find two competitors who were any more different? Probably not, and that’s what makes this challenge so attractive (besides our combined good looks)!

We’ve weighed in, emailed our photos of our scales to each other, and we’re now off on Day 1 of the Body Moment Fitness Challenge.

Expect a good deal of vitriol, trash talk, and testosterone-fuelled bravado over the next 28 days.

I can’t wait. It’s gonna be a blast taking my friend’s money.

Breakfast:

2 eggs, lightly poached, with green onions, salsa, and greek yogurt

1/2 pita bread

1/2 cup coffee

Lunch:

1/2 cup chickpeas

1 cup sliced plum tomatoes

1/2 cup sliced cucumber

1/2 pita bread

1 cup coffee

Snack:

1 slice chocolate-chip banana bread

14 almonds

1 grapefruit

Dinner:

1 cup basmati rice

3 oz meatloaf

1/2 cup sliced cucumber

1/2 cup sliced peppers

Total water intake today:

72 oz and counting

Total exercise today:

15 burpees for the 30 Day Challenge at yourinnerskinny.ca (I’m far too sore from lugging patio stones and gravel on Sunday to do much more…back to Jillian tomorrow, though!)
